Habit

Lie over lie,

Comes from my mouth,

When I’m confronted,

For the hundredth time.

Hiding the truth,

From myself and the world,

Hasn’t been easy.

How long will this go on?

How many more years?

When will I find the courage,

To face myself?

Being truthful is the only option,

So I’m breaking the habitual

Lying tonight.

  1. What a brave and straightforward take on the “habit” keyword! I realise that the poem is not necessarily about you and that there is poetic licence to it, but it doesn’t make it less effective. Thanks a lot for sharing your lovely piece!
