Avengers 2: The Age Of Ultron (3D) – Movie Review

Director: Joss Whedon

Production: MARVEL Studios

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L Jackson, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Cobie Smulders, Paul Bettany, James Spader and others.

While infiltrating the HYDRA base, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is brainwashed by mysterious twins, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (Aaron-Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen) to create Ultron (voiced by James Spader), a global peace-keeping machine. Born out of Stark’s ego, Ultron comes to one conclusion: global peace can be achieved by destroying all humanity. Thus ensues a game of wits between the Avengers and Ultron.

Though the plot is clichéd, what makes the film click is the character portrayal by the star-studded cast. The ever-glamorous Tony Stark is even more sombre and serious after Iron Man 3. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a bit more modern than we last saw him. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is a bit more outgoing and friendly towards the mortals. Pietro and Wanda are like a breath of fresh air in the film.

As for Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), I have only three words : Oh. My. God. Joss Whedon, you are devilishly wily *bows and slow claps are heard*.

But what pissed me off in this film was long, boring fight scenes (especially one between Hulk and Iron Man), and less screen time for RDJ. Just kidding.

As a MARVEL fan, I loved this film. Witty dialogues, great humour and character development made it the rollicking sequel everyone anticipated. However, I strictly recommend it for movie-goers to watch atleast The Avengers to get a basic idea of how this film works.

I am rating this **** out of *****.

  1. The first movie is still the best, but this one’s not too far behind as well. What worked for me are the witty dialogues from Tony Stark from time to time. A great actor in a great role!

  2. Great review here! I definitely preferred the first movie, but there were some great parts to this one and some great new characters. Can’t wait to see how the Marvel universe changes after this!
