The Beauty And The Beast Book Tag

beauty and the beast tag

So Nut Free Nerd had left an open nomination for this one, and this challenge sounded SO cute that I HAD to do it. Thanks, Holly! And thanks to Amber Elise at Du Livre for creating this one!

Surprisingly, I’ve neither watched the animated movie nor the live-action one that everyone’s in love with. These last two years have been quite hectic, and the next two seem to continue in that vein, so I’ll have to find time to watch them 😦

Now for the fun part.

villain

A villain you can’t help but love.

sword of summer

Loki from Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series ( *confession* TOM HIDDLESTON’S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS *end of confession*).

I’ve always empathised with Loki – his conflicting morals, his inferiority complex, his raging passions…. I’ve always felt that his punishment for killing Balder was too harsh. And have I mentioned how cool shape-shifting is?

OTP

Your OTP.

half-blood prince

This is easily the hardest question, because I ship most characters with myself 😛

But after a few centuries of thought, I can say that I thoroughly ship Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks (S.S Wotcher Wolvie or Ronks).

This is a thoroughly disputed ship – many have called out on Remus for being selfish and too drowned in self-pity to have actually reciprocated Tonks’ love wholly. And they may be right.

But the fact still remains that their love is redeeming – Tonks saved Remus from what could have been a descent into darkness and despair; and he stabilises her wildfire personality. It’s sad that their love had to end in tragedy, but thank God for Teddy Lupin.

destined for bigger things

A character that’s destined for bigger things.

home and the world

Bimala from Tagore’s The Home and the World. Let’s be honest, EVERY character in this book was destined for greater things. But Bimala stands out. Her transformation from a woman who worshiped the dust of her husband’s feel (literally) to a firebrand personification of Bharat Mata was just awe-inspiring. Had it not been for this book’s ambiguous ending, I’m sure we would have seen some greater magic being cast by Tagore.

food

A book that makes you hungry.

a little princess

Umm. This question was hard because I always munch on something while reading, so that I don’t need to get up to fetch a snack (#lazy bookworm problems). But Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess ends up warming my heart and making me a little hungry because of all the mentions of food in it.

So many feasts, so many secret feasts, so many happy feasts…. *sigh* Time to grab a snack, I guess.

opposites attract

Opposites attract.

the hunger games

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.

One bakes bad guys while the other bakes bread (bad one, I know).

One is the Girl on Fire –  stubborn and determined. The other is gentle and steady.

One speaks her mind while the other weighs his words carefully before utterance.

‘Nuff said.

I tag whoever is reading this!

What are your reasons for watching Beauty And The Beast? What books would you have chosen for these questions? And is there any way of freeing up a busy schedule? *cries*

Top 5 Fictional Characters I Learnt From

a.gif

It is Teacher’s Day here in India! Commemorating that is today’s post on what I learnt from fictional characters…

5. Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock

images

What I learnt:

Okay, this one is quite superficial, but *shrugs* learning is learning!

  • How to deduce people

c

  • How to survive when shot in a non-fatal area

b

  • How to use clever insults!

4. Isabella “Bella” Swan  from The Twilight Saga

stupid.jpg

Before you all click “Unfollow” and run away, I’d like to add this – she taught me what NOT to be.

What I learnt:

  • To not be as selfish, stupid, petty and (insert choicest negative traits here) as her.

nrm_1414325259-bella-swan-harry-potter-vs-twilight-13776987-400-320

  • She is engaged to the man of her dreams, and the only thing she does is whine about how he is sooo over-indulgent and caring towards her (and how annoying that is). Gee, Bella. I feel so sorry for you.

nrm_1414325046-twilight-musical-1.jpg

  • Fine, she chooses Edward over Jacob. That means that she should let go of Jacob, so that he can find someone for himself. But oh no, Bella has the cake, eats the cake, and takes the cakes of others as well.

stupider

3. Anne Shirley from Anne Of Green Gables

Ah, finally, a sensible heroine 🙂

What I learnt:

Anne taught me that it is okay to be wildly imaginative and trusting, always hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. She actually made me feel normal and accepted at a time where everybody was calling me ‘weird’ and ‘freaky’ for being dreamy:

hopeful:

and just a *teensy* bit dramatic:

2. Anthony Howard “Tony” Stark from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

This might come as a surprise to most of you (considering the events of Age of Ultron and Civil War) but Tony continues to be my first crush and all-time favorite superhero.

images (1).jpg

What I learnt:

Tony inspired me to dare to aim high, to not be afraid of failure, to be wild, impulsive and just plain arrogant and awesome. Be gutsy, be brave, and be proud. Considering that I have a tendency to hesitate before doing anything, Tony taught me this:

  1. Remus John Lupin from Harry Potter

This must come as no surprise, since I’m always talking about how my love for Remus Lupin, Werewolf Extraordinaire, is an eternal and undying flame kindled in my heart…Apart from the little things about him that makes me go “Awww,” here’s what I learnt from him.

download.jpg

What I learnt:

Your life may be screwed up as hell, but I have no rights whatsoever to take it out on others. Lupin’s kind and non-judgmental attitude towards everyone did wonders to my hard little heart. The way he treated others shows the strength of will he must have had, battling a terrible condition, but trying to not let it show. Wise indeed.

images (2).jpg

Granted, he had his moments of crippling inferiority which an insensitive soul may call ‘weakness’.  But I believe that he realized the gravity of his action only after Tonks became pregnant, so I don’t  particularly blame him for that, because all of us have experienced the “What have I done?” feeling before.

images (3).jpg

It does take a lot of courage to fight for the future even when it means certain death. And I deeply revere Remus for that.

Oh, and just ignore me choking here, It is just those damn onion-cutting ninjas.

But ending on a happy note (read: HP better than Twilight!!!)

My Ships And Songs

download

Hey guys!

Sunday today, time for fangirling finally found!

Here’s a list of my favorite ships and the songs I associate with them:

  1. James Potter x Lily EvansInto The Night, Santana Ft. Chad Kroeger

I feel that this is what EXACTLY James would have sung when he first saw Lily. And the beats to the song suits James’ personality so much – proud and upbeat.

2. Remus Lupin x Nymphadora Tonks A Thousand Years, Christina Perri

A more beautiful match cannot be found.

3. Tony Stark x Pepper PottsLeave Out All The Rest, Linkin Park

I feel that this is fitting especially after Age of Ultron

4. Hazel Lancaster x Augusts WatersPhotograph, Ed Sheeran

I also considered Tobias and Tris from Divergent for this one, but meh, I’m in the Tobias hating minority, so I stuck with Hazel and Gus instead.

5. Teddy Lupin x Victoire WeasleyBest Song Ever, One Direction

I know that there is absolutely nothing given about them in canon (Thanks for disappointing me, Cursed Child ), but this is how I imagined their relationship would have gone.

Have better songs for these ships? Or better ships for these songs? Or hell, totally different ships and songs? Share in the comments below!

#3 Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Okay, so I FINALLY figured out that I’ve been getting the dates wrong for each of the MOTW (stupid, stupid, me). I really don’t know what to do, so I guess I’ll go on with the prompts I’m already doing, and try to catch up with whatever I’ve left. Maybe combine two prompts in one post. I don’t know.

The prompt this sentence deals with asks us to name our favourite Hogwarts teacher. As mentioned before, it is the one and only Remus Lupin. Reasons already given!

So the next prompt I’m taking now is quite interesting: What would your Amortentia smell like?

Amortentia (if you’ve forgotten), is the most powerful love potion in existence and has the smell of whatever the user finds attractive, knowingly or unknowingly.

My Amortentia will probably smell like oleander blossoms, mint, fresh paper, and petrichor (the smell produced by rain hitting the dry earth, or the scent right before it begins to rain).

I like the heady fragrances produced by oleander. It makes me feel heavy in the head, but it is pleasurable all the same. Roses make me feel dizzy, and I just don’t like their scent. Oleander is better (and a more fragrant) alternative.

Mint is heavy too, but it is a fresh sort of heavy, making you feel light and heavy at the same time. It overwhelms you, catches you by surprise and has a sharp smell (what does that even MEAN?) but it is just awesome.

Every time I buy a book, I take some time to smell it. Stupid, I know, but it smells good all the same, all dry and papery and fresh…You know what? Smell a new book yourself? You’ll know what I mean.

And now for petrichor. I didn’t even know the right word for ‘the scent before it rains’, but Google gave me the solution. Petrichor smells fresh, as if everything is going to be reborn, and the messed up world is going to be cleaned. It is quite pleasant and nice. I’m no big fan of the rains (mud and slush, ugh!), but petrichor is an exception.

What would YOUR Amortentia smell like? Do let me know.

#1 Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Moment Of The Week

Moment Of The Week

Hosted by Uncorked Thoughts, this is one of the most fascinating memes I came across, all credit to Bloggiesta! Held every Thursday, I’m starting from today (and you can count on me to post as long as this meme goes on!).

Today’s prompt is the best DADA teacher at Hogwarts. Frankly, I liked all of them except Professor Quirrel, Gilderoy Lockhart, and Dolores Umbridge (ugh!) but I guess I’d probably go with Remus Lupin. He is one of my favourite Harry Potter characters, and apart from that, he teaches his students pretty well despite his ‘disability’. He is a dream teacher for most HP fans. Who doesn’t want a cool werewolf-turned-teacher who empathises well with students (and who gives chocolates)?

Who is your favourite DADA teacher and why?

Friendship And Harry Potter…

Almost every Potterhead would remember the brilliantly crafted quotes on friendship and love from the Harry Potter series. On the occasion of Harry Potter’s 34th birthday, J.K. Rowling’s 49th birthday, and Friendship Day, let’s celebrate love, friendship and good cheer with some of these heart-warming quotes, which will bring back the happy times we spent with our friends and Harry.

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”

“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery and — oh Harry — be careful!”

“I was terrified they would desert me the moment they found out what I was. But of course, they, like you, Hermione, worked out the truth…
And they didn’t desert me at all. Instead they did something for me that would make my transformations not only bearable, but the best times of my life. They became Animagi.
They couldn’t keep me company as humans, so they kept me company as animals.”

“Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass, they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal.   William Penn, More Fruits of Solitude”

“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort’s gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.”

“You think I’m a fool?” demanded Harry.
“No, I think you’re like James,” said Lupin, “who would have regarded it as the height of dishonor to mistrust his friends.”
